Step by step towards a comfortable future

July 8, 2023, 9:25 451 Author: Healthcare Program Officer: Natalya Moroz deti.zp.ua We continue to work for the safe and comfortable stay of children and adults in Zaporizhzhia.

Step by step towards a comfortable future

At the beginning of September 2022, we started a project aimed at helping to equip the bomb shelter in School No. 65 of our city. This educational institution also continues to operate as a temporary shelter headquarters for internally displaced persons, which is located in the adjacent kindergarten. During an air raid alert, teachers who conducted classes online hid in the school shelter. As well as IDPs who periodically arrive in Zaporizhzhia from occupied or frontline territories and temporarily stay in the shelter for a couple of days.

Despite the horrors of war, students continued to study remotely, and graduates received school graduation diplomas. Thus, life has not stopped and even has its plans for the future. And the institution's plans include switching to a blended learning mode from September and continuing the work of duty groups.

However, a problem with central hot water supply arose in the preschool department. It simply will not be there anymore. And the institution has a swimming pool. The showers also need boilers. The previous equipment that provided hot water to the six groups of the preschool department has broken down and cannot be repaired. Therefore, to ensure comfortable conditions, the management once again turned to the Happy Child Charitable Foundation with a request to purchase 6 water heaters.

Thanks to the systemic support that the foundation receives from our regular donors, this issue was resolved almost immediately! The necessary equipment has already been purchased and handed over to the school. The foundation spent almost 39,000 hryvnias on the purchase of boilers.

And then there is an equally important problem with equipping the shelter. To continue classes in the event of an air raid threat, there are no student desks in the shelter. 200 single desks are needed, costing about 1.5 thousand hryvnias each. And to close this issue in a month, by August, we need 300,000 hryvnias.

This task is not an easy one, but we are counting on your support again!
