Head of Kyiv Regional State Administration Anatoliy Prysiazhniuk has promised that 50 new family-type homes will open in Kyiv region this year.

"The creation of foster families and family-type homes in Kyiv region is care about our future, rather than tribute to fashion, because every child should have a family and be brought up in a family. Every child under the age of 18, who lives in a family-type orphanage, receives two living wages from the state," he said at a meeting of the administration's board on Wednesday.

According to the administration's press service, 584 children became orphans in 2011. Of these, 472 were sent to foster families.

Without a portable oxygen concentrator, 12-year-old Asya from Zaporizhzhia cannot breathe properly.
