Can a Rock Band Help Orphans? Why not?

December 25, 2012, 20:30 3161 Author: President of Happy Child foundation: Albert Pavlov www.deti.zp.ua On October 20th guys from a rock band NDay and a youth club “Tema” came to the Molochansk orphanage sharing their music and their wish to do good with its pupils

On Saturday October 20th 2012 the pupils of the Molochansk orphanage in Zaporozhye region had a celebration awaiting for them. They were visited by a rock band NDay and a youth club “Tema”.

During the three-hour visit the children at the orphanage not only enjoyed live music performed by the band but also had a chance to think about the timeless values. The breaks between songs were used for short presentations which told the young audience about the “you reap what you sow” rule and that the good deeds will always be rewarded.

The symbolic thing about this event was that the gifts collected for the children by the students of regular schools were handed out to them by a boy Ivan, who used to be a pupil of that orphanage, too. Fortunately, a local family adopted Ivan a few years ago, but he still feels the needs of other orphans.

After the concert the children had an opportunity to talk to the musicians and to demonstrate their multiple talents, while some of the volunteers played football with the local boys. By the way, the Molochansk football team is one of the best in the whole region!

Our trip to this orphanage left great impressions. The children obviously lack the company of new people and the attention of the adults! We will certainly visit this institution again. The important thing for organizing such trips is to make them into something more than just brief conversations and giving out presents. The guys from NDay and “Tema” gave the kids something greater — a faith in good deeds, a desire to make the world a better place!

We would also like to thank the benefactors of the “Happy Child” foundation and the “Klubok” tourist program for their donations that are making such visits to the remote orphanages of our region possible — this time they helped to pay for the transportation for the musicians. “Klubok” program only provided money to pay for gas — and that's only about $73.3. We hope to find those who are willing to support this project and to bring such concerts to other orphanages and village schools across our region.

Without a portable oxygen concentrator, 12-year-old Asya from Zaporizhzhia cannot breathe properly.
