“Last January for the first time in history of the state-run facility for children with severe forms of disability, in the village of Kalinovka, Chernigovskiy district, Zaporizhzhya region, one of its little orphans was finally adopted. Six-year old Sasha is now a family member of an American pastor from South Carolina , USA”, - informed ReporterUA, the director of the “Happy Child” charity foundation, Albert Pavlov.

The Kalinovka Orphanage currently has 120 orphans aged from 4 to 35 years diagnosed with different mental and physical disabilities. A great number of the orphans are wheelchair users.

“Just a month ago Sasha was almost dead but now he is crawling about and playing in his loving family”, - Shane Robertson, who lives in Myrtle Beach, happily comments on his Facebook page.

According to the orphanage director, Nilolay Slavov, Sasha’s biological mother abandoned him when the boy was still a baby. From the Solnyshko Baby’s Home Sasha moved to the Kalinovka Orphanage where he stayed till the time his American family found him.

Since 1st December 2011 the “Happy Child” charity foundation together with the orphanage administration, donors’ and volunteers’ support have been running a new project called “Happy Home”. A thoroughly restored house that used to be a Mennonite mansion is now a social group adaptation center that provides a more nurturing family-like environment for nine children with special needs from the Kalinovka Orphange. The “Happy Home” project still needs donors and volunteers to help with further project development.

Without a portable oxygen concentrator, 12-year-old Asya from Zaporizhzhia cannot breathe properly.
