Baby on ALV apparatus
When I visited ZCMCH (City multiple-discipline children hospital of Zaporozhye) № 5 in March 2010 I at once got to new born babies resuscitation division. I was impressed by those pink nubbins to whom different tubes and cables were connected.
“Are you impressed?” – Yuriy Griroryevich, deputy head physician on technical questions, asked me.
Of course I was impressed. Some children weight 500 gram, almost all of them are prematurely born. But most of all I was impressed, even astonished by that fact that all ALV (artificial lung ventilation) apparatus are connected to only one compressor which supplies them with air and oxygen. Yuriy Griroryevich told that there ideally should be eight of them.
Generally there are two compressors in the hospital but one of them is broken and the hospital has no money for its repair. My guide continues that even this functioning one can fail at any moment. All babies will die then. It is terrifying.
Hospital management requested our fund to help with compressor repair payment. And long-expected moment has come.
Compressor works!
The repair cost $ 200, it is not such a big sum if to take into account that is it a price for life of tens of little babies. But very often exactly such sums become decisive for saving somebody’s life. Thank God donations made us able to pay this repair.
