Devote a minute attention

March 19, 2011, 23:00 6142 Author: Sergey Ovcharenko, translated by Darina Sukach www.deti.zp.ua 15 February 2011 – International Childhood Cancer Day. Our Charity Foundation decided to raise awareness of cancer by launching a special auction

It’s widely believed that cancer is a death sentence, especially when it concerns children. Although the goal of our action was to help people realize that cancer is rather treatable, we also tried to raise people’s cancer awareness. However, it was just half of our goal. We wanted to cheer up all the children who haven’t conquered this dangerous disease yet as well as inspire them with hope about their speedy recovery and coming back to their normal life.

From the 11th to the 13th of February the supermarket chains of Amstor and Varus together with the “Happy Child” Charity Foundation held a charity auction aimed at collecting toys and stationary for the Hematological Department of the Zaporizhia Children’s regional hospital.

During this auction we asked people to buy a toy and donate it to the cancer-sick children. We were really surprised to see how many people responded to our charity request! It seemed like we collected enough toys for nearly the whole hospital! It’s difficult to describe the feelings of the little patients, their parents and doctors. The children were touched to feel such a kind attention from people they never met in their life.

We would like to thank the Amstor and Varus administrations for their active participation in running this charity auction. We are also deeply grateful to all the big-hearted people who supported us (besides toys we managed to collect 6,928, 02 hryvnyas – 869$). We’re really thankful to all the volunteers who devoted their weekend for us.

Together we can overcome all kinds of hardships and obstacles, and cancer is not an exception.
