=====================================

On the 5th of October 2002 at 6:40 a.m. Polina was brought into this world. On this very same day the doctors at the hospital diagnosed her with “congenital heart disease, ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect, [and] aortic valve stenosis.” The diagnosis was later confirmed by cardiologists at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery, Amosov N. M. of Ukraine in Kyiv.

When she was only three months old, Polina had her first surgery – Blalock–Taussig shunt. After that she started to feel better and was able to develop normally. At the time Polina’s parents thought she would need a more serious surgery. After a while she started to have problems again and started to have hypertension.

The cardiologists concluded that she would need yet another surgery. In 2005, they operated on her and after it was all said and done, the pressure did not decrease. Despite these medical troubles, Polina tries to lead a normal life. She has always been fighting for her life and always tries to be a winner in each situation.

Polina studies at home and finished all of her five courses with the highest marks! With the help of her singing teacher (Shigoleva A. V.) she is a good singer and has participated in school concerts. Polina also has a YouTube channel where she uploads videos and has fun. She also draws, plays checkers, embroiders beads and helps raise her younger sister. Polina is a very open person and enjoys talking to new people. Due to her health, Polina unfortunately cannot go on long walks with her friends and is limited to certain physical activities. Currently due to her pulmonary hypertension she gets tired very quickly and always needs oxygen.

Her mom wrote some words about Polina for us….

“She is a very good child, a wonderful friend and the best daughter a mother could wish for!

This April the cardiologists came to the conclusion that she needs a rather complex procedure – lung transplant. This type of operation for children is only done in India. The Indian clinic is ready to undertake this operation and assist with the cost. The operation will cost USD 150,000, which is almost UAH 4,000,000 – an unimaginable amount of money for any middleclass family in Ukraine.

We are not going to quit because God will give us a chance and we will make the most of it.

To everyone that reads this article - we kindly ask for your help in saving our daughter! Our family will be sincerely thankful to each and every person that makes a donation. We, as parents, just want to give our children a chance at life and make their dreams become a reality.”

The family lives in the city of Melitopol, Zaporozhe region.

The family’s phone number: +38 067 417 36 03 (Tatiana – Polina’s mother)
