As it was stated on the first of April 2009 there are 1572 families in Ukraine who want to adopt a child. Such information was given by the State Adoption and Children Security department of the Ministry of Ukraine for Family, Youth and Sport.
The whole number of families who want to adopt a baby is – 77 in the Crimea Autonomous Republic, 77 in Vinitskaya region, 30 in Volynskaya region, 102 in Dnepropetrovskaya region, 145 in Donetskaya region, 41 in Zhitomerskaya region, 50 in Zakarpatskaya region, 48 in Zaporozhskaya region, 49 in Ivano-Frankovskaya region, 67 in Kievskaya region, 18 in Kirovogradskaya region, 69 in Luganskaya region, 95 in Lvivskaya region, 40 in Nikolaevskaya region, 93 in Odesskaya region, 47 in Poltavskaya region, 42 in Rivnenskaya region, 39 in Sumskaya region, 33 in Ternopolskaya region, 87 in Harkivskaya region, 53 in Hersonskaya region, 55 in Hmelnitskaya region, 52 in Cherkaskaya region, 27 in Chernovetskaya region, 26 in Chernigovskaya region, 100 in Kiev, 10 in Sebastopol.
In the whole number of families who want to adopt a child, 587 families want to adopt a baby before the age of one, 618 - between the age of one and three, 266 – between the age of three and five, 78 – between the age of five and ten, and only 27 want to adopt a child between the age of ten and eighteen.
According to the survey held in the year 2008, 2066 Ukrainian children adopted by the Ukrainian families constitute 624 (30%) children before the age of one, 919 (44%) children before the age of three, 367 (17%) children before the age of six, 135 (7%) children between the age of 7 and twelve and 31 (2%) children between the age of thirteen and eighteen.
At the same time there are 32 000 officially registed orphans, 89% of these children are girls and boys between the age of seven and eighteen.
During the first four months of the year 2009 Ukrainian families have adopted 519 children, and this number is 30% greater then the result of the previous year.
During the first three months of this year 4382 children were taken to families providing different forms of family upbringing.
