Alyosha, a former orphan from Kalinovka orphanage without limbs who was adopted by an American family in 2012, is now enjoying his life to the fullest: he plays hockey and swims. Logan’s foster mom (that’s Alyosha’s new name) Julie posts updates on her son’s progress on her blog.

By the way, for the last 2, 5 years foreign families adopted eight orphans with special needs from the orphanages in Kalinovka and Velikiy Lug whereas our countrymen have never adopted a single child with severe disabilities for forty years!

I feel bad for those who still spread scary myths about foreign adoptive parents whose goal is to sell orphans’ internal organs. I also feel sad for Russians who banned Americans from adopting their orphans.

I’d like to believe that one day foreign adoption will vanish – not because of any restrictions and prohibitions, but because Ukrainians will welcome into their families all orphans, including children with special needs.
