19 percent of Ukrainian families ready to adopt orphans

June 20, 2006, 0:00 3007 Ukrainian radio

This was disclosed by Family, Youth & Sports Minister Yuriy Pavlenko at a roundtable in Kyiv today. 19 percent of Ukraine's 13.5 million families would be willing to adopt orphans, given the State's material and social-psychological support.

This data was recieved through a poll by the State Institute for problems. As Yuriy Pavlenko noted, eight percent of the families would be ready to become foster parents, whereas six percent stated their readiness to create family-type orphan-houses. Minister Pavlenko stated his conviction that Ukrainians must become foster parents by virtue of the Ukrainian nation's inherent love for children and deep-rooted family traditions.
