As a result of investigation of theft of new-born children from Ukrainian maternity hospital, Ruth-Gaby Vermot-Mangold came to the conclusion that they do steal children in Ukraine.

“I did not know whether these rumours are true. It turned out that they are and children really disappear. I am sure that they do steal children,” declared the reporter.

Ruth-Gaby Vermot-Mangold is convinced that these crimes are committed with the purpose of organ transplantation. According to her, “organs of a new-born can be transplanted to other children, but it is not the main point. Such material is suitable for skin transplantation and stem cell extraction.”

In this connection Ruth-Gaby Vermot-Mangold intends to engage Prosecutor General of Ukraine in the investigation. PACE representative supposes that there is a “criminal system as one person is not able to manage everything.”

She also reported that during the time of her staying in Ukraine she has “cleared up five cases of disappearance” from Kharkov maternity hospital. According to her, “such case happened in different cities of Ukraine – Lvov, Kiev, Kharkov.”

PACE reporter underlined that she came to Ukraine “by official invitation of President Victor Yushchenko”, and “it is evidence of his desire to make the investigation public.”

Ruth-Gaby Vermot-Mangold reported that “Council of Europe is ready to support Ukraine.” In her opinion, in order to solve the problem of illegal adoption and children kidnapping, it is needed to find the guilty, to change regulations in maternity hospitals, to increase parents’ responsibility, as is customary in Europe. She considers that it is also necessary to cooperate “with international organizations, which are familiar with such problems – UNICEF, OSCE, International Migration Organization.”
